MIST is a voluntary, student-led organization dedicated to keeping IST informed about news, activities and events in the community and to promoting the togetherness that has historically defined our school. MIST currently broadcasts a livestream newscast every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the secondary. MIST provides students with an opportunity to learn about media production by offering a wide range of roles, including news anchor, supervisor, content producer and engineer. MIST also provides students with opportunities to develop leadership skills by offering tiered leadership roles.
Introduction:
In the vibrant and diverse community at the International School of Tianjin (IST), we are thrilled to introduce MIST. MIST is a student-managed and operated media club that aims to add value to the student experience at our school. With a mission to foster creativity, collaboration, and communication, MIST provides an exciting platform for students to explore the world of media and contribute to a dynamic school environment.
MIST Morning Broadcasts:
One of the highlights of MIST is our live morning broadcasts, which take place four times a week from 8:15am to aproximately 8:23am. Led by a team of enthusiastic students, these broadcasts keep the school community informed and engaged. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, students gather to create compelling content, share announcements, and showcase various activities and events happening within the school. These broadcasts serve as a channel for students to express their creativity and develop their communication skills.
MIST Tiktok:
MIST students from grades 9 to 12 are also involved in producing social media posts that offer another avenue for our organisation to add value to the student experience at IST. In accordance with strictly applied values, the MIST Tiktok team has experienced significant success in producing quality content that is appropriate, wholesome, and entertaining.
Weekly Planning Meetings:
Every Thursday, MIST members gather in room 203 at 1:15pm for a weekly meeting to organize and plan upcoming broadcasts. During these sessions, students collaborate, exchange ideas, and assign roles and responsibilities. By participating in these meetings, students develop essential organizational and leadership skills. They learn to manage timelines, coordinate resources, and work as a team to ensure the seamless execution of MIST broadcasts.
Monitoring and Reflecting:

MIST also offers an invaluable opportunity for Grade 11 and 12 students to monitor and reflect on their work while contributing to their Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) requirements. Through their involvement in MIST, these students engage in self-assessment, evaluating their progress and growth within the club. They document their experiences, challenges, and achievements and connect them to the CAS framework, fostering personal development and a deeper understanding of media management and leadership.
Conclusion:
MIST is an exciting and student-driven initiative at IST. By providing live morning broadcasts, facilitating video content creation through the MIST Action Group and elementary after-school activity, and conducting weekly planning meetings, MIST aims to enrich our student experience and foster creativity, collaboration, and communication skills. Through their involvement in MIST, students not only contribute to their CAS requirements but also develop invaluable media management and leadership skills. MIST embodies the spirit of empowerment, innovation, and community engagement, and we are thrilled to witness its positive impact on our school community.
